Family: Cyperaceae (sedge family) Maximum height: 1.8 metres

 

Where found:

  • Margins of swampy lakes, ponds and rivers, also in swamps
Description:
  • Robust, large clumps with round (4-6mm diameter) flower stalks originating from creeping rhizomes
  • The soft, tubular rich green leaves with bamboo-like joints inside and flower stalks are equal length
  • Drooping, much branched, red brown panicle
  • Red brown nut 2mm long
