Family: Cyperaceae ( sedges) Maximum height: 2 metres

 

Where found:

  • Margins of lowland and coastal lakes, streams and ponds
  • Usually emergent from shallow water
Description:
  • Stiff erect blue-green stems 1 - 2 metres tall from a creeping rhizome.
  • Leaves reduced to papery sheaths
  • Flowering head brown, 12 cm wide, much branched and lopsided
  • Nut light grey
