Family: Solanaceae (Nightshade family) Maximum height: 3 metres

 

Where found:

  • Coastal and lowland forest margins and shrubland
Description:
  • Shining, open branching shrub with soft wood and green to purplish stems
  • Alternate dark green soft leaves are branched with 1-3 lobes, up to 4-40cm long, but usually 15-30cm long
  • Flowers most of the year with lavender or white flowers up to 3.5cm across
  • Berries are drooping and yellowish, 20-25mm long
  • Dark green/brown bark with vertical stripes
  • The plant has a variety of medicinal uses (ulcers, itch, bruises)
